The Editorial Board
Our purpose and guiding principles:
The Northwest Missourian Editorial Board is comprised of the editors of the publication for the purposes of discussing and presenting commentary and solutions on important issues surrounding Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville and surrounding communities.
The Board in no way speaks for the newsroom at The Missourian, nor is it used as a platform for the Board to air grievances. Rather, its purpose is to provide attention and opinions on important local, state and, sometimes, national issues that affect our readers.
The editorials written and published are not written by one person, rather by the Board as a whole with multiple contributors. Topics for editorials are chosen based on pressing issues the the Board recognizes needs attention.
The Board’s primary responsibility is to its readers: the students, faculty, and staff at Northwest, members of the Maryville community and those residing in Nodaway County. The Board values bridging the gap between campus and community, aiming to provide a better understanding of the collective issues they face.
The Northwest Missourian Editorial Board does not subscribe itself to partisan ideals. It seeks to examine the facts and nuances of each issue and offer solutions based on research, logic and reason for the good of its readers.
