A Maryville, Missouri, man barricaded himself in his home with the possession of a firearm near Third and Mattie streets Tuesday.

Maryville Public Safety closed off Third street at approximately 9 a.m. in response to a man locked in his residence and in an alarming state of mental health, according to the authorities.

MPS took the suspect into custody and later transported him to Mosaic Medical Center, Maryville.

Director of Public Safety Keith Wood said the suspect was considered a possible threat to himself or others.

“The suspect was having difficulty with mental health issues,” Wood said. “As of now we have taken him to Mosaic so they can handle the medical side of things.”

MPS said identification and prosecution will follow through at a later date, after medical determinations have been made by Mosaic staff.
