Maryville Public Safety released an advisory while it investigates two off campus incidents where women were approached by a man they did not know. In one of the incidents, the woman was physically assaulted.
The first incident reported happened around 1:50 a.m. Sept. 20, on the 1900 block of North Grand Avenue, where the victim was followed by the suspect to her apartment. The suspect attempted to force his way in the building but fled before gaining entry. For this circumstance, the victim could not provide a suspect description.
The second incident happened around 7 p.m. Sept. 28, in the 900 block of North Main Street, where the suspect approached a woman as she was getting into her car and physically assaulted her. The suspect fled the area on foot when the woman resisted and fought back.
The victim from the second incident was able to provide the following description: a white male in his early 30’s with short black hair and no facial hair, close to 6 feet tall and weighing about 180 pounds.
As of Sept. 29, it is unclear whether the two incidents are related, the advisory said. Local public safety said in its release that it encourages people to be aware of their surroundings and call law enforcement with any suspicious activity.
