The Nodaway County Health Department reported 24 new COVID-19 cases Aug. 24, bringing the total active cases from 125 to 136. The county has reported three deaths, all in the last week.
Aug. 24 marked the third consecutive day the county recorded at least 24 COVID-19 cases and the fifth straight day the hit daily total reached double digits. The county’s rolling 7-day average hit 15.7 today, the highest since the pandemic began.
At least 52 active cases involve Northwest students or employees.
The county includes Barnard, Burlington Junction, Clearmont, Conception Junction, Elmo, Graham, Hopkins, Maryville, Parnell, Pickering, Ravenwood and Skidmore. At least 140 of the 335 total positive cases in the county since April 2 have been Northwest students or employees.
The Northwest Wellness Center is still testing only those who have been contacted by the University because they attended an event where an attendee tested positive. Nodaway County Health Director Tom Patterson said if someone is showing symptoms of COVID-19, they should call — not immediately go to — the Mosaic Medical Center.
