The Northwest men's basketball team scored 30 unanswered points in the second half during an 86-41 victory Friday night against Upper Iowa in the opener of the Ryland Milner Classic at Bearcat Arena.
It was the season opener for both teams and Northwest never trailed in the match-up.
The Bearcats led 38-22 at halftime and then went on a 35-2 run to begin the second half to go up by nearly 50 points. Upper Iowa finally ended the scoring drought with eight minutes remaining in the game but it wouldn't put a damper on the Bearcats' night.
"We just knew the first five minutes (of the second half) were crucial," Northwest's Andy Peterson said.
Hunter Henry led the way with 21 points, followed by Andy Peterson's 19 points and Victor James 10 points.
"I thought we had real good energy and intensity," Northwest coach Steve Tappmeyer said. "We played a lot of people and that part of it didn't drop off much when we brought other people into the ball game."
Northwest will now play Lincoln University at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the final game of the Ryland Milner Classic at Bearcat Arena.
