Construction was a word frequently mentioned this summer in Maryville. In addition to Main Street construction, several apartment complexes popped up around town.

One that likely caught the eyes of passers-by is the apartment complex located at 418 W. Seventh St. Construction began in early summer and finished in time for students moving back for school.

Brett Robinson now lives at the brand new complex.

"I saw that the building was going up and that they had a sign advertising the new building," Robinson said. "I called and space was still available."

The complex is located just off campus on the corner of Seventh and Walnut streets. Mostly Northwest students occupy the apartments, making it an easy commute to campus.

"It is really nice being close to campus," Robinson said. "It's a blast seeing all of the people walking by. You get to see a lot of people."

The complex consists of four separate apartments. They each have three bedrooms with two baths.

"The walls aren't thin, we haven't heard our neighbors since we have moved in," Robinson said. "It has been nice. We got to know all of our neighbors and we hang out all of the time."

The lot where the new complex stands used to provide space to an older house that consisted of apartment style living. That building was torn down in order for the new apartment complex to be built.

Nisha Bharti lived in Maryville during the summer and witnessed the construction.

"I decided to move off of campus for my final year at Northwest," Bharti said. "I noticed that they were building new apartments and that they were looking to fill spots but decided on living in a house somewhere else in town."

Other apartments were built throughout the summer. Construction began on a new complex just north of the Outback bar on West Fifth Street during the spring trimester and was completed during the summer. Two new apartment buildings went up as well on North Main Street just south of the Windmill Apartments located just east of the Casey's Convenience Store.
