The double barrel attack of John Farmer and Adam Mattson led the Maryville Spoofhounds to a 42-7 win over St. Joeseph Lafayette Friday night.
Farmer began the onslaught when he picked up a Lafayette punt and returned it for a touchdown early in the first quarter.
"I saw the ball and just thought Zeke (Winans) had his guy blocked so I just picked it up and ran with it," Farmer said.
After forcing a Lafayette three-and-out on the next series, Mattson capped the 'Hounds' first offensive series with a 28-yard touchdown run on his first carry of the game.
From there, Maryville had a series of penalties that slowed them, until senior fullback Wyatt Maudlin scored from a yard out to get the 'Hounds back on track.
"A couple of them (penalties) were questionable but you know I still didn't like it," coach Chris Holt said. "You have to do the little things right, because the only drive we really got stopped on was the one with all the penalties. After that though the game slowed and we got back on track."
Mattson and Farmer would each score on runs longer than 60 yards before halftime to push the score to 35-0.
The Fighting Irish finally got on the board with 27 seconds remaining in the first half on a 73 yard run up the middle by quarterback Bryston Williams.
"I just told them, you know this team was down 33-7 last week and came back and we need to come out and put the ball in the endzone," Holt said. "And that's what we did."
The 'Hounds started the second half with an 11-play drive that included three third-down conversions and capped by a 12-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Joe Jasinski to tight end Adam Thompson for the final score in the game.
With the 35-point lead the running clock kicked into action and Holt rested most of his offensive starters once the fourth quarter started.
