Maryville soccer started it's season with an explosion of offense.

Maryville starters didn't see as much time as they will the rest of the season. The Spoofhounds beat Cameron Tuesday night 11-1 using every player on the team.

The 'Hounds didn't even get the chance to finish their game. The game ended nearly five minutes early because of the 10 goal mercy rule in high school soccer.

Senior Jon Rogers led the 'Hounds with five goals. The rest of the goals for Maryville came from all over the field with six others players scoring goals.

"We were very excited and played hard the entire game," Rogers said. "Even the last goal of the game we all jumped up and cheered."

Coach Stuart Collins said their hard work and determination is the reason the score was the way it was.

This game kicked off the Barstow Tournament for the 'Hounds. Eight teams compete this week to win the Barstow tournament. It ends for the 'Hounds Saturday, they hope with a championship victory.

After a blowout like that the team is very optimistic for the rest of their season.

"I am pretty excited that we didn't over estimate ourselves and go out and let this game get away from us," Junior John Morton said. "This is the first game we have played and it was a good start. We have a lot of depth and that means the starters will be able to (take) more break time, and not being tired gives us a better chance to win."

The 'Hounds expect fierce competition than they experienced Tuesday night, including fierce teams like Platte County Morton said.

"If they play like they did tonight, we have a great chance of winning this tournament and having a successful season," Collins said. "We are a lot quicker than a lot of teams, and they used that."

Maryville is a very young team and this game was the first time that many of them played together. They return only three starters from last year's squad.

"We moved the ball around very well for the first time we have all played together," Rogers said. "Hopefully, we can turn this into a good season, hopefully as good or better than last year."

The 'Hounds take on Platte County at 5:45 p.m., today at Barstow, Missouri.
