Senior Maggie McManigal didn't set out wanting to become a collegiate runner.
From Colorado Springs, Co. she competes in cross country and track and field here, and has been participating in both sports for the past 10 years.
McManigal's reasoning for joining the sports is fairly common and practical.
"I wanted to stay in shape for basketball so I started running," she said, "Turned out I kind of liked it."
McManigal wanted to attend a college within a day's drive from her home in Colorado, so she looked up Northwest, came out for a visit, and loved it. She also thought it was pretty cool coach Scott Lorek, the track coach, used to coach in Colorado. She also has family in Iowa and Kansas City which helps as well.
McManigal and her family gather together to eat a dinner for Christmas where they eat aebsleskiver, a Danish pancake, since they are Danish, along with other foods.
During the break this winter, she plans on traveling back to Colorado to be with her family, and then head out to New York City for New Year's.
