It's finally here; college is just a few months away.
The experience students will face will be different.
As the school year kicks off the adjustment to college life may be a little difficult for some. Each student will face homesickness to some degree, Personal Development and Counseling Services Director Tim Crowley said.
Some students will feel the effects more if they are further away from home, not choosing the college or if the student doesn't have complete control over the new environment, Crowley said.
The Personal Development and Counseling Services offer some tips to help incoming freshman and other students that struggle with homesickness.
1. Try to do something you enjoy like running or playing basketball.
2. Get organized, the more organized you are the less stressed you will be.
3. Help other people, volunteer or join an organization.
4. Set realistic goals for your academic career.
5. Feel sad and homesick, cry if you need to.
"Being homesick is a normal experience," Crowley said. "It can be treated so you don't have to suffer."
The Personal Development and Counseling Services are open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and counselors are always ready to talk, Crowley said.
