President Hubbard and wife Aleta wait for the parade to start. The parade was held Thursday in honor of President Hubbard and his upcoming retirement.

Campus and community members gathered Thursday afternoon and evening for celebrations honoring University President Dr. Dean Hubbard and First Lady Aleta Hubbard.

Well-wishers lined University Drive, holding up signs and cheering as the couple made their way to the J.W. Jones Student Union in a golf cart during a parade. In front of them, the Bearcat Marching Band, cheerleaders and Bearcat Steppers performed a medley of celebratory tunes, while Hubbard's office staff and other supporters brought up the rear.

Once inside the Union, the Hubbards and their guests socialized over refreshments - including "Quarter Century of Quality" chocolate bars with the first family's picture on the wrapper. Later, after an introduction by Mary Throener, Director of Human Resources Management, Hubbard took to the podium to thank the audience and those involved with planning the day's events.

The day - proclaimed Dean and Aleta Hubbard Day by Maryville Mayor Chad Jackson - concluded with a fireworks show following a barbecue at College Park Pavilion.
